Stop South Punjab Becoming Swat

As the world focusses on the FATA and Swat regions of Pakistan, and the Balochi areas of Quetta, Pashin and the Noshki are also not hidden from the world’s flashlight anymore, there is very serious and looming threat just standing at the door of the Southern areas of Punjab province of Pakistan, which borders with the Balochistan province and is one of the world’s most backward areas.

The abject poverty is rampant in the areas of South of the Punjab. Districts such as Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, and some of the others have the lowest literacy rate in the world with no jobs, no healthcare and no mentionable presence of the modern infrastructure. Though these areas are not ungovernened as like FATA, but situation is stark as far as the law and order is concerned. The feudal occupy all the resources and the common people resort to the Madaris for the education and feeding of their children. Though not all Madaris are dissimenating the extreme views, there are some real alarming threats. In essense, Madaris don’ treally pose any threat, the threat comes from the returning Taliban from the FATA and Swat.

These returning Taliban could try to replicate what they tried in Swat and FATA in their areas. These people could turnover the concept of Talibanization in these areas. Already there emanating some serious reports from the areas. Banned outfits like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi draw their massive human resource support from these areas.

Again military operations are no option for this area. Government should wakeup and so is the world body. Lots of investment should be done in South of the Punjab. Roads, hospitals, industrial zones, schools, colleges, universities, technical insitutes, and recreational joints should be introduced in the area. This is the only solution to stop terrorism from taking roots in this area
